A Silver & Gold Holiday Tablescape to Give Thanks For, Day & Night

If Thanksgiving’s gray November skies make you think of gloomy, think again when setting your table. Gray is a classic color theme to add elegance to your tablescape ~ a perfect canvas or backdrop for adding gold and silver elements to shine both day and night.

Here’s how I layered the glittering look:

A gray linen table runner sets off the polished wood of our antique wood table with gorgeous border inlay.

I used our wedding china for this elegant holiday table decor. It is a classic style that has stood the test of time. (Don’t even ask me how many years we’ve been married!) But the Royal Doulton dinnerware with its black and silver lines is timeless.

As is our silverware. It needs only occasional polishing (that Bill does so well, wink😉)

Our wedding’s German crystal glitters here.

I added the relatively recently-purchased, silver-bottomed water/wine glasses. Nice…

To finish off the place settings, there are matching gray linen napkins and place mats from William Sonoma ; napkin rings from the Royal Doulton collection.

A silver and black feather (purchased from Joanne’s) slipped into the napkin ring gilds the lily.

I found silver-bordered place setting name tags.  I use the place cards at every gathering and encourage you to do so also.  This way you can manage your guest’s conversation stars with those who might need a wee bit of a boost.

Then the real fun and artistry begins!

I added the battery-operated twinkling lights under and around the table runner, along with battery operated candles, paired with gray candles in their silver candlesticks ~ displayed at various elevations on silver stands for a styled “tension,” to provide that mesmerizing evening glow.

Charming silver, music boxes, nestled on embroidered linen cocktail napkins ~ the silver crown boxes look like something you might find at a medieval court, grace the table ~ first as secret repositories for the amuse bouche. It’s so thrilling and gratifying to see your guests’ faces when they open up that music box!

If you want to know more about using this unique entertaining creation, ask me. I was inspired by an elegant restaurant in Ecuador.

Throughout the year, I collect the wishbones from our chicken dinners and then spray paint them for a special holiday treat.

Just before we break for dessert, we go round the table saying what we’re thankful for and then use the wishbones to make a wish for the future.

It’s a nice tradition…

I added a few items to sparkle things up and serve as conversation starters, including the silver filled hour glasses and gold pumpkins. I spray-painted faux orange ones. And added the cordial glasses that look like mini chalices to amplify that silver medieval charm of the music boxes.  (Can you find other charmers?)

And because you can never have too much glitter ~ I sprinkled gold stars around the place settings to capture the table’s glow and the firelight and the moon ~ and Gotham’s glittering skyline just yonder…

Of course your menu printed out and displayed for your guests is a lovely extra that I’ve come to embrace doing. It adds that loving touch of hospitality that says we care about you in a special way and welcome you to our holiday table.

Please enjoy this video tour of the silver and gold Tablescape:

We wish you and family and friends a healthy, delicious, holiday gathering, brimming with happy conversations and compassion for those less fortunate.

Peace.

Love,

Leeann and Bill
